Concerns Over Hungarian Swimmer Kristof Milak’s Training Consistency

Following some worries about inconsistent practice, Hungarian swimming sensation Kristof Milak seemed to have regained his form at the recent Hungarian Championships. He achieved an impressive 50.99 in the 100 fly and 1:54.90 in the 200 fly. However, reports suggest that Milak’s training schedule may be off-track yet again.

Media Reports on Training Absences

Under headlines such as “Kristof Milak has disappeared again,” Hungarian media is reporting that the 24-year-old World Record holder and Olympic champion missed 32 out of 38 training sessions in the 27 days following the championships. These absences reportedly happened “without justification”.

Previous Concerns from National Team Coach

In December, Csaba Sos, the Hungarian National Team coach, expressed his worries about Milak, stating that he had not done any meaningful work for months.

Coach’s Comments on Milak’s Training

Balazs Virth, Milak’s coach, confirmed that he resumed training early this year. He also dismissed reports claiming that Milak had been secretly training in Australia.

Accomplishments of Kristof Milak

Milak is one of the 33 swimmers selected for the Hungarian team for the European Championships in June. He is the three-time defending European Champion in the 200 fly in long course and two-time defending European Champion in the 100 fly in long course.

In addition to that, Milak is the 2019 and 2022 World Champion and the 2021 Olympic Games Champion in the 200 fly.

Previous Race Participation

Before the 2024 National Championships, Milak hadn’t raced for almost a year. His last race was at the April 2023 National Championship meet.
