China Implements 34% Tariff on All U.S. Imports in Retaliation to Trump’s Tariffs
TL/DR –
China has announced a 34% tariff on all US imports beginning April 10, in retaliation to the US’s “reciprocal” tariff of 34% on Chinese exports. The Chinese government will also impose more export controls on rare earths, materials used in tech products, and has suspended imports of chicken from two US suppliers due to violations. A total of 27 firms, including High Point Aerotechnologies and Universal Logistics Holding, were added to lists of companies subject to trade sanctions or export controls, and China has also filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization over the tariff issue.
China will implement a 34% tariff on all U.S. imports from April 10, a counterblow to U.S. President Trump’s recent round of hefty tariffs. This matches the U.S.’ retaliatory tariff of 34% on Chinese goods.
The Beijing Commerce Ministry will enforce stricter export controls on rare earths, used in sophisticated products like computer chips and electric vehicle batteries.

Minerals like samarium, used in aerospace manufacturing and defense, and gadolinium, used in MRI scans, will be controlled. China also suspended chicken imports from U.S. suppliers, Mountaire Farms of Delaware and Coastal Processing, citing violations.
China has extended trade sanctions or export controls to 27 additional companies. Out of these, 16, including High Point Aerotechnologies and Universal Logistics Holding, face a ban on exporting “dual-use” goods.
China has lodged a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning the tariffs.
“The imposition of so-called ‘reciprocal tariffs’ by the U.S. breaches WTO regulations, undermines multilateral trading systems and international economic order,” the Commerce Ministry said.

It termed the move as “unilateral bullying that endangers global economic stability.”
Earlier, in February, China levied a 15% tariff on American coal and liquefied natural gas imports, with an additional 10% imposed on crude oil, agricultural machinery, and large-engine vehicles.
The latest tariffs apply universally to all U.S. manufactured products, stated the Ministry of Finance’s State Council Tariff Commission.
