Trump’s tax reversal and freebies dominate the 2024 election

As President, Trump cut a hefty tax break enjoyed by coastal donors and suburban swing-state voters. Now, promising to reinstate the deduction, he hopes to secure a return to the Oval Office.

Trump doesn’t see this as a policy flip-flop, rather a response to changing economic conditions. His campaign promotes pro-growth policies and tax positions that allow citizens to retain more money.

However, it seems Trump’s needs have shifted more than the economy, suggests Caroline Bruckner from American University’s Kogod Tax Policy Center.

This change is one of multiple freebies Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are offering voters as Election Day approaches. The promises include blocking taxes on tips for service workers, exempting seniors from Social Security taxes, and a $50,000 deduction for small-business startups in the first year.

Mark Robinson persists in N.C. governor race despite inflammatory comments
