Trump Proposes Expansion of U.S. into Greenland and Canada
At a recent press conference at Mar-a-Lago, President-elect Donald J. Trump did not dismiss the possibility of using military force to reclaim the Panama Canal. He was asked whether he intends to employ military or economic coercion to gain control of these territories.
“I can’t assure you on Panama and Greenland, but we need them for economic security. The Panama Canal was built for our military,” Trump replied. He did not rule out the option of employing military action to acquire these regions.
When asked if he would consider using military force to annex and acquire Canada and Greenland, Trump responded: “No — economic force because Canada and the United States, that would really be something. You get rid of that artificially drawn line, and you take a look at what that looks like. And it would also be much better for national security. Don’t forget, we basically protect Canada.”
