First Community Credit Union: A Trusted Financial Institution in St. Louis

Rooted in St. Louis for over 90 years, First Community Credit Union is a trusted leader in the local financial sector with more than 400,000 members.

First Community: Not a Bank but a Credit Union

First Community is a not-for-profit financial cooperative, originally established in 1934 to serve as the credit union for employees of Monsanto. Over time, it has expanded its membership to serve a broader community.

Membership at First Community Credit Union

As a state-chartered credit union, First Community is open to individuals who live or work in selected Missouri and Illinois counties. Existing members’ family members are also eligible to join. Unlike banking with traditional banks, members deposit their money which is then borrowed by other members. After meeting operating expenses and reserve requirements, the income is returned to the members.

Financial Services at First Community

First Community offers a range of financial services designed to make life easier and more affordable for families in St. Louis. From no closing costs or private mortgage insurance for qualified first-time home buyers to no loan application or processing fees, First Community sets itself apart from traditional financial institutions.

Online and Mobile Banking with First Community

In addition to physical branches, First Community members have access to online and mobile banking, making it easier to manage finance from anywhere at any time. When members need assistance, they can visit a branch or reach out to the Member Information Center.

The Growth of First Community under CEO Glenn Barks

Under the leadership of President & CEO Glenn Barks, First Community has grown significantly, boasting over $4 billion in assets. The branch network has expanded to 40 locations, making First Community the largest credit union in St. Louis and one of the top 100 largest credit unions in the country.

First Community’s Family of Brands

Beyond the credit union, First Community’s trusted family of brands includes First Community Insurance Agency, First Community Realty, and Investment Services at First Community, offering convenient one-stop shopping for essential financial services.

Since 1934, First Community Credit Union has been committed to serving generations of families and looks forward to continuing its legacy in the years to come.
