TL/DR –

Fluence Energy has started domestic production of its battery modules at a facility in Utah, marking a significant step in the firm’s strategy to grow module production with domestically sourced components. The move is designed to cater to rising domestic demand for utility-scale energy storage and to ease supply chain risks. The firm is also committed to producing cybersecure products, with its system software developed in the US, Germany, and India.

Fluence Energy Advances U.S. Energy Independence with Domestic Battery Module Production

Fluence Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLNC), a global leader in energy storage, services, and software solutions, has begun domestic production of its battery modules. The leading-edge battery cells are manufactured in Tennessee and assembled in a Utah facility, supporting Fluence’s mission to meet rising U.S. demand for utility-scale energy storage with domestically produced components.

Fluence’s U.S.-made battery modules integrate seamlessly with its battery management system for an industry-leading state of charge, balance, and system health. This system provides secure energy delivery for customers, and its design allows supply chain flexibility, tapping the most competitive domestic and international battery cells as they become available.

John Zahurancik, Fluence’s President for the Americas, explained that their rapid module production and sourcing of U.S-manufactured battery cells position them ideally to leverage the Inflation Reduction Act’s domestic content bonus tax credit. With Fluence’s fast-paced approach, they aim to deliver domestically manufactured energy storage solutions that satisfy customer requirements, mitigate supply chain risks, and bolster the country’s energy independence.

In response to increasing Section 301 tariffs on batteries imported from China, Fluence’s U.S.-based manufacturing strategy becomes ever more critical in navigating a shifting global trade environment. Beyond domestic manufacturing, Fluence also focuses on cybersecurity, with system software developed in the U.S., Germany, and India.

Fluence’s domestic manufacturing capabilities are already impacting major energy projects, such as the Eleven Mile Solar Center in Arizona. All equipment for the project was delivered from a Utah production facility. Fluence has also announced an agreement with Excelsior Energy Capital to deploy 2.2 GWh of energy storage projects using domestically manufactured battery systems across the U.S., starting in 2025.
