TL/DR –

The next priority for President Trump’s term is the passage of a significant legislative bill, which has been met with concern by some Republicans over issues such as the deficit, Medicaid, the State and Local Tax Deductions, and the Inflation Reduction Act. Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., insists there are no cuts proposed for Medicare and Medicaid benefits in the bill, instead it aims to root out waste and increase efficiency in delivering benefits. Blackburn is also advocating for online protection for minors and has written to Meta to demand changes to the exposure of children to explicit content online.

President Trump’s Next 100 Days: Big Bill, Tariffs, and Online Protection for Minors

The next 100 days of President Donald Trump’s term showcase key priorities including the passage of one comprehensive bill. The Wall Street Journal revealed key Republicans who may affect the bill’s passage before the July 4th deadline. The main concerns are the deficit, Medicaid, State and Local Tax Deductions, and the Inflation Reduction Act.

“Compromise will focus on making tax cuts permanent based on current policy,” stated Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. “That’s where unity exists.”

Senator Blackburn believes no cuts to Medicare and Medicaid benefits are proposed, contradicting Democratic claims. The bill seeks to enhance the benefits process by giving state Governors flexibility in delivering Medicare and Medicaid services. According to Blackburn, all efforts are aimed at eradicating waste, fraud, and abuse while improving benefits delivery.

The Impact of Tariffs on Tennessee

The bill’s proposed tax cuts are expected to counterbalance tariff-induced economic problems. Tennessee imports over $20 billion in goods from China, with most destined for auto and medical manufacturing, and musical gear. Blackburn stated, “We’re working with the USTR to address these needs,” highlighting the importance of supporting local industries during the transition out of China-based supply lines.

Online Safety for Minors

Senator Blackburn is also advocating for improved online protections for children, concerned about reports of sexually explicit chats with minors on Meta chat boxes. She condemns the exposure of minors to explicit content online and has called on Meta to make immediate changes. Blackburn also emphasizes the responsibility of the House of Representatives to pass the Kids Online Safety Act to further safeguard children online.
