Solarize the Triad Aims to Boost Solar Energy Usage
A new private-public coalition, Solarize the Triad, is aiming to enhance solar energy consumption in the region through community outreach and bulk purchasing of solar equipment and services.
Will Eley, Green Jobs Program Manager at Piedmont Environmental Alliance, indicates that the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 opened the door for local governments and nonprofits to avail tax credits for solar installations. However, the complexity of paperwork and technology has been a barrier to many.
“It’s overwhelming, even for those with years of experience. Therefore, a major objective of our campaign is to simplify and alleviate these apprehensions, boosting people’s confidence,” he explains.
The initiative allows community groups to self-generate power via solar installations on their premises.
Nonprofits participating in this endeavor include major regional agencies like Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina and local organizations such as Winston-Salem’s Boston-Thurmond United.
