ASU Climbs Research Spending Rankings

Arizona State University (ASU) spent $797.2 million on research in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022, ranking 38th out of 899 institutions in the National Science Foundation’s Higher Education Research and Development survey. This spending was an 18% increase from the $677.7 million spent in fiscal 2021. Among institutes without medical schools, ASU is ranked 5th out of 310 institutions and 14th overall when medical school expenditures aren’t considered.


ASU Climbs in National R&D Spending Ranks

Arizona State University (ASU) is rising in the ranks of research and development (R&D) spending among US higher education institutions. The university spent $797.2 million on R&D in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022, ranking it 38th out of 899 institutions, according to a National Science Foundation survey.

This marks an 18% increase from the $677.7 million spent in fiscal 2021, and a four-spot leap in ranking from the previous year.

When excluding medical schools, ASU sits fifth out of 310 institutions. Without considering medical school expenses, ASU achieves a 14th place ranking among all institutions.
