Senator Lindsey Graham has criticized the Biden administration’s border policies, calling the US-Southern border a “national security nightmare”. He stressed that border security is a key point in negotiations between the Senate and the White House, particularly in relation to unlocking aid for Ukraine and Israel. Sen. Lindsey Graham Criticizes Biden’s Border Policies

On Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) called the Biden Administration’s border policies a “national security nightmare,” arguing that these policies have backfired. Graham insisted that the “stupid policies” would be replaced, asserting that the U.S.-Southern border is a significant concern for national security.

The issue of border security continues to dominate negotiations between the Senate and the White House, particularly in discussions around aid for Ukraine, Israel, and enhanced border security measures. Republicans have largely rejected the White House’s initial supplemental request, insisting that border securities must be firmed up if aid is to be expanded for Ukraine and Israel. The White House earlier warned that aid for Ukraine will deplete by year-end without Congressional action.

Graham criticized the White House’s approach to the discussion, saying, “They got engaged five days ago… We’ve been talking to them since September. Five days ago, they finally sat at the table,” He argued that lawmakers feel they are being rushed into decisions. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was among the top officials to meet Senate negotiators last week.

Despite claims by some lawmakers that negotiations are advancing, Graham asserted that a deal is far from being reached, and the process would extend into the following year. He blamed the administration’s policy decisions for making the border dangerous.

Graham first mentioned FBI Director Christopher Wray’s warnings about increased threats in the U.S. since Hamas’s attacks on Israel in October, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths. He stressed on the need for more than a “Band-Aid fix” for border security.

Graham opined that the only way to achieve secure borders is to make the Biden administration implement actions they are reluctant to undertake. He mentioned progress in negotiations for stricter asylum rules, including proposals like Title 42, which allows the U.S. to suspend processing asylum claims and expel migrants if daily illegal border crossings reach a certain threshold. The White House has yet to respond to these comments.
