Fairview Non-Profit Camp Faces Opposition Over Development Plans
The WORX, a non-profit summer camp in Fairview, North Carolina is facing backlash over its development plans. Local residents have expressed concerns about the potential impact on area roads and the risk of short-term vacation rentals on the site. The camp management has proposed development of a portion of its 250-acre property to include new cabins and classrooms.
Minimal Impact and No Short-Term Rentals
Sara Jarrell, director of The WORX project, assures that environmental disturbance will be kept to a minimum. “We’re environmentalists at heart,” Jarrell stated. “We aim to keep as much of this property as pristine as possible.” Despite concerns raised at a recent Board of Adjustment meeting about short-term rentals, Jarrell clarified that the property will not be listed on Airbnb or VRBO. “We’re not interested in hosting big, huge events, such as a Lollapalooza,” she said. Instead, any non-camp related usage would be limited to weekend church groups.
