Councilman Friedel’s Integrity Questioned: Heimbuch Report

187

TL/DR –

The author criticizes Fountain Hills Town Council members Gerry Friedel and Councilman Skillicorn for their behavior during a council meeting in which they allegedly ambushed a local resident. Friedel is criticized for his disrespect toward residents and the current mayor, and the author also calls out Skillicorn, who has had seven ethics violations filed against him. The author concludes by stating that Friedel does not deserve to be elected as mayor due to his lack of honor and integrity.

Fountain Hills Town Council’s Ethics Called into Question

In a recent Town Council meeting, Councilmen Gerry Friedel and Skillicorn’s actions led to questions surrounding the ethical standards outlined in Section 8, Code of Ethics of the Fountain Hills Town Council’s Rules of Procedure, which states that members should be “dedicated to the highest ideals of honor, and integrity in all public and private relationships”.

Friedel’s calculated ambush of a local citizen on February 6 was seen as a blatant display of deflection from personal responsibility, a technique known as “what aboutism.” Councilman Skillicorn, whom seven ethics violations have been filed against, was also implicated in this scenario. The phrase “two wrongs don’t make a right” seems to be a lesson unlearnt by both councilmen.

The very notion of Friedel seeking the respected office of mayor has sparked controversy given his recent display of disrespect towards Fountain Hills residents and current Mayor, Ginny Dickie. His actions were viewed as devoid of the honor and integrity expected of a town council member.
