2024 Golden Globe Nominations Include Scottsdale Native Emma Stone

On Monday, the 2024 Golden Globe Nominations list was unveiled, featuring Scottsdale’s own Emma Stone. Stone received nominations in two categories: Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in “Poor Things” and Best Actress in a Drama for her performance in “The Curse.”

In “Poor Things,” a dark comedy directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, Stone portrays Bella Baxter, a young Victorian woman resurrected by a scientist after her suicide. Meanwhile, in the Showtime series “The Curse,” she plays Whitney Siegel, a woman balancing her new HGTV show, fertility struggles, and a potential curse.

Stone, born Emily Stone in Scottsdale on November 6, 1988, began her acting journey at the Valley Youth Theatre (VYT). Her debut role was in “The Wind and the Willows” when she was just 10. VYT’s artistic director, Bobb Cooper, praised her early talents in a 2017 interview with Teen Vogue, stating Stone’s knack for bringing any character to life.

This isn’t Stone’s first Golden Globe nomination; she bagged Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy in 2017 for “La La Land.” During her Academy Award acceptance speech for the same role, she expressed gratitude towards Cooper.
