“Beer City USA,” also known as Grand Rapids, MI, has been awarded the title of No. 1 Beer City in the United States by USA Today for the fourth consecutive year in its annual Readers’ Choice poll. This achievement for the city was largely influenced by the presence of the globally recognized Founders Brewing Co. and local Belgian-style Brewery Vivant, amongst several others, as well as a variety of beer-oriented festivals and events.
The renowned Founders Brewing company has temporarily closed its Grand Rapids kitchen and taproom for remodelling.
According to USA Today, the beer scene in Grand Rapids, the second-largest city in Michigan, is the state’s strongest. It features numerous brewing operations like the Belgian-style Brewery Vivant and lists over 80 breweries along the city’s official “Beer City Ale Trail.” Alongside exceptional beer stores like Siciliano’s Market, the city hosts regular beer festivals, promotions, and events, which solidify its claim as “Beer City USA.”
With this award, Grand Rapids surpasses other noted cities such as Asheville, North Carolina, Fort Collins, Colorado, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Santa Rosa, California. Grand Rapids has consistently won the USA Today award since 2020, states Experience Grand Rapids.
The destination marketing organization for Kent County, Experience Grand Rapids, has mentioned online that the city has been widely known as Beer City USA since 2012. In an online poll, Grand Rapids tied with Asheville, North Carolina, for America’s Best Beer City. The following year, it won by a landslide and has been the sole holder of the title ever since.
