Kari Lake was sworn in as special adviser for the U.S. Agency for Global Media, an entity that senior adviser Elon Musk suggested should be dismantled. Her new role will oversee and advise agency leadership on administration priorities and streamline the agency, its networks, and its grantees, according to the agency’s Office of Public Affairs.
Kari Lake Takes Oath as Special Adviser for U.S. Agency for Global Media
On Monday, Kari Lake, a former Phoenix TV broadcaster, took an oath as a special adviser for the U.S. Agency for Global Media. President Donald Trump initially appointed her to a government entity, which senior adviser Elon Musk later proposed to be abolished. Lake wrote, “Looking forward to serving America, streamlining the United States Agency of Global Media and everything it oversees.” Voice of America, an Agency for Global Media branch, previously announced Lake’s appointment.

In February, Musk proposed shutting down VOA-affiliated organizations on X, a platform he owns. VOA reported that Lake’s appointment was delayed as Trump’s pick to head the Agency for Global Media, L. Brent Bozell III, awaited Senate confirmation.
The Office of Public Affairs stated, “Kari Lake has been sworn in as the Trump Administration’s Senior Advisor of USAGM, VOA, and OCB. She will oversee and advise on Administration priorities and implement policies to streamline the agency.”
The Agency for Global Media, funded by taxpayers, is required to submit a Congressional Budget Justification report outlining the financial needs of VOA and other government media outlets.
