Wake County Sheriff’s Deputy-Involved Shooting Sends Man to Hospital

A man was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday evening after being shot by a Wake County Sheriff’s Deputy. It is currently unknown what his condition is, reports the Sheriff’s Office.

The man’s injuries were described as “serious” as reported by ABC11.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m., ensuing a nearly seven-hour standoff. The deputy had initially attempted to enforce a court-ordered eviction at The Oaks Apartments at about 10:45 a.m.

The resident of an apartment on Water Oaks Drive refused to vacate, resulting in the Sheriff’s deputies communicating with him through various means.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office eventually entered the apartment at about 5:30 p.m., in a bid to evict the man.

One deputy discharged his firearm during this process, although the circumstances leading up to this are yet to be clarified by the Sheriff’s Office.

The State Bureau of Investigation will conduct an investigation, as it is standard procedure when an officer fires a weapon.

During the standoff, other residents of the complex were asked to evacuate. The Oaks Apartments complex is situated in the northeast of the county, near Louisburg Road.
