Moog Music Relocates To Downtown Asheville, Expands Manufacturing

Legendary synthesizer manufacturer Moog Music is relocating its product design, development, and engineering staff from Broadway St. to 14 O. Henry Ave, the Art Deco building currently housing the Citizen Times newsroom. The move follows the newsroom’s plan to vacate the second-floor offices, which it had been renting since Gannett sold the building to local investors in 2018.

The move brings Moog closer to Asheville’s city center, a hub of creativity and musical expression as stated by Moog President Joe Richardson. The company, famous for its synthesizers used by bands like the Beatles and Rolling Stones, expressed excitement about being near Citizen Vinyl, a record maker and cafe on the building’s first floor.

In addition to the relocation, Moog will expand its manufacturing at its Weaverville location north of Asheville. This expansion will improve assembly and warehousing capabilities and offers more convenience for staff building the synthesizers.

After being sold to international firm inMusic in 2023 and cutting around 30 jobs, Moog has since increased its workforce and foresees enhanced staff growth with the manufacturing expansion.

This relocation is the latest in a series of movements by key Asheville music entities. Echo Mountain recording studies announced its plan to leave its downtown site for an undisclosed new location.
