Phoenix Police Release Body-Cam Footage of Officer-Involved Shooting

Phoenix police have made public body-cam footage from a fatal shooting that occurred during a confrontation with a suspected motorcycle thief earlier this month. Graphic Content: Viewer discretion is advised.

A 911 call was made by a woman at approximately 2 p.m. on June 2, reporting a man armed with a gun attempting to steal her partner’s motorcycle. The caller was unable to provide a specific location, only disclosing they were in an alley.

Once the location was identified as the 13th Street and Palm Lane area, officers found the suspect on a motorcycle, brandishing a handgun. The released body-cam footage appears to show the suspect raising his gun at the officers when they exited their patrol SUV, resulting in both officers discharging their weapons.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Joshua Main, was transported to a hospital where he later died. No other injuries were reported from the incident.

A Glock handgun was recovered from the scene, and police say evidence suggests Main fired at least one round. The two officers involved, who are assigned to the Mountain View Precinct, have four and six years of service respectively. The shooting continues to be under investigation.
