The “Community Keys” event is a part of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival that will be running every day from May 1 to June 21, 2024. During the festival, three pianos painted by U-M students are available at different locations throughout Ann Arbor for anyone to play an impromptu concert, with scheduled concerts by local pianists every Wednesday and Saturday. The event will culminate with a grand finale piano trio performance on June 21 at Top of the Park.
Ann Arbor Summer Festival Presents “Community Keys”
This year, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival introduces Community Keys, a music initiative running everyday from May 1 to June 21. In this unique event, three pianos painted by U-M students are set up at different Ann Arbor locations for anyone to deliver an improvised performance. The event kicks off on May 1 with celebrated local boogie-woogie & blues artist, Mark “Mr. B” Braun, who will perform at each of the three piano locations. Additionally, concerts by local pianists will take place every Wednesday and Saturday (details at a2sf.org). The project will conclude with a grand finale piano trio performance on June 21 at Top of the Park.
Scheduled concert times begin at 12:00 PM at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, 2:30 PM at the Michigan Theater, and 5:00 PM at U-M Shapiro Undergrad Library, 919 South University. This event is free. For more information, call (734) 994–5999.
