UPAWS Cause for Paws Revives After 5-Year Hiatus

The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) held the beloved Cause for Paws – Party for Pets fundraiser and award ceremony, returning for the first time in five years.

Celebrations included silent auctions, raffle items, and games. The night also highlighted exceptional contributions towards animal welfare with the presentation of UPAWS community awards, as well as recognizing local animals making a significant impact on the Marquette community.

Recognizing Outstanding Contributions

  • The 2024 Assissi Award was presented to Kathi Fosberg
  • A therapy dog named Sal received the 2024 Silver Tag Award
  • The NMU Wildpups were awarded the 2024 Purple Paw Award
  • Chris Gonyou was honored with the 2024 Gold Heart Award

Lynn Andronis and Andi Goriesky, key members of the Cause for Paws committee, expressed the community’s excitement about the return of the event.

“It’s truly a fun gathering where people come together to talk about their pets and contribute to a great cause. The funds raised tonight all go towards helping the animals at our shelter,” said Andronis.

Goriesky also shared, “There were people thanking us for bringing this event back.”

In closure, Andronis expressed her gratitude to all the generous individuals who donated and helped revive this event.
