West-MEC Launches Dual Enrollment Program with Grand Canyon University
The Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC), known for its technical education training for high school students, now adds a unique dual enrollment program in collaboration with Grand Canyon University (GCU).
West-MEC’s program diversity, ranging from air conditioning technology to culinary arts, will expand to include a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, which students can complete in three years post-high school. This initiative aims to equip students with essential skills for life and employment.
Speranta Klees, who manages post-secondary partnerships at West-MEC, stated that the degree will have three focus areas: applied technology, applied business information systems, and applied cybersecurity management.
Klees emphasizes that GCU recognized the increasing demand for skilled workers in various trades, leading to this partnership. West-MEC has ties with other public universities, but GCU’s proximity to West-MEC’s main campus makes it a more convenient option for students.
