The expected rainfall ranges from 0.5 to 2 inches across the coastal and valley regions, and 2 to 4 inches in the foothills and mountains, with southwest-facing slopes projected to receive even more. Citizens are advised to take precautions such as clearing debris from rain gutters, avoiding flooded roads, and using caution when driving.
Southern California Braces for Continued Rainstorms into Next Week
Continued rainfall is expected to soak Southern California through the weekend. “We certainly have a lot more rain and snow coming into Southern California,” warns KTLA Meteorologist Kaj Goldberg, indicating multiple weather fronts will impact the region.
As per the National Weather Service, through Monday, coastal and valley regions can expect 0.5 to 2 inches of rain while the foothills and mountains will receive 2 to 4 inches. Southwest-facing slopes are to receive even more.
Counties such as Ventura, Los Angeles, and Orange, along with the Inland Empire, will experience showers lasting until Monday night. San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties may witness lingering showers up to Wednesday.
Expect active thunderstorms on Monday, particularly from noon through the evening. These weather conditions may severely limit visibility and potentially cause road flooding, making travel hazardous throughout Southern California.
“If you are headed out, please be very careful, especially when heading to work or school on Monday morning,” Goldberg advised. “Leave yourself plenty of extra time to get to work or school.”
High surf and flood advisories are in effect for coastal areas from Oxnard to Long Beach until Sunday night at 10 p.m.
Preparation tips for the stormy weather include clearing out debris from rain gutters and waterways, having a backup plan for any outdoor activities, avoiding any flooded roads, using extra caution when driving due to slick roadways, and monitoring the current forecast for any changes.
Overnight rain totals on Saturday night vary across different regions, with Redondo Beach witnessing .7 inches and Downtown L.A. experiencing .3 inches.
