Anthropic has unveiled new features in its Artificial Intelligence (AI) suite aimed at enhancing user assistance with health data via the Claude platform. This initiative, named Claude for Healthcare, allows US-based subscribers of Claude Pro and Max plans to securely share their health records and lab results.
Users can grant Claude secure accessibility to their health information by linking to HealthEx and Function. This week, Anthropic is rolling out integrations with Apple Health and Android Health Connect through its iOS and Android applications.
Anthropic indicated that once linked, Claude can summarize users’ medical history, simplify test results, spot patterns across fitness and health metrics, and prepare questions for medical appointments. The announcement comes hot on the heels of OpenAI’s debut of ChatGPT Health, a platform for users to securely connect medical records and health apps while getting personalized advice, lab insights, diet tips, and meal recommendations.

Users can also modify or revoke Claude’s permissions at any time. The company assures that health data is not used for training its models, mirroring OpenAI’s approach.
These developments occur amid increased scrutiny over the potential risks of AI systems providing harmful or misleading advice. Following incidents of AI systems giving inaccurate health information, including a notable case involving Google, both OpenAI and Anthropic stress that their AI products are fallible and should not replace professional healthcare consultation.
Within their Acceptable Use Policy, Anthropic emphasizes that any outputs from their AI concerning healthcare decisions, medical diagnoses, patient care, counseling, mental health, or any other medical advice should be reviewed by a qualified professional before use.
