7 Powerful Techniques to Keep Your Fitness Resolution Alive
Setting New Year’s Fitness Resolutions in Chattanooga
The New Year brings about an opportunity for new beginnings and improvements. Many Chattanoogans find themselves pondering their New Year’s Resolutions, often focusing on health and fitness. They are left wondering not just where to start, but also how to maintain them consistently.
For insights on this, we reached out to a local fitness expert, Jacob Smith, the General Manager of Planet Fitness located in Chattanooga. He shared some valuable tips on how residents can take positive steps toward establishing a fitness routine and improve their health in the new year.
Jacob Smith’s Personal Fitness Journey
“In my experience, I was a skinny kid who struggled to gain muscle. What motivates me is the simple fact of becoming healthier and helping others. I wanted to contribute to people’s well-being not in a hospital, but in a more dynamic setting. The fitness industry was the platform that enabled me to do that,” said Jacob Smith, General Manager of Planet Fitness Chattanooga.
Creating a Welcoming Environment at Planet Fitness Chattanooga
“At Planet Fitness, we strive to create a welcoming and non-intimidating environment. We often refer to our gym as a judgment-free zone. The biggest challenge is getting there and then feeling confident in the gym. Some people feel vulnerable in the gym. We aim to create a barbershop-like atmosphere where everyone is friendly, and people feel welcomed,” said Jacob Smith, General Manager of Planet Fitness Chattanooga.
Overcoming Gym Anxiety
Jacob, who is also a personal trainer, understands that some individuals may feel reluctant to attend the gym out of fear of being watched by others. He expressed his thoughts on this common concern.
“Many people believe that others are watching them while they exercise. The truth is, everyone at the gym is there for the same reason—to work out. So, no one is really paying attention to what others are doing. As a personal trainer, I used to reassure my clients that they are not the center of attention. This usually helps them relax and focus on their workouts,” said Jacob Smith, General Manager of Planet Fitness Chattanooga.
Three Simple Steps for Fitness Resolutions
Jacob’s advice for setting and accomplishing New Year’s fitness goals revolves around three simple steps.
First, just get started. Second, build small but consistent habits. And finally, stay self-motivated. Keep asking yourself, ‘Let me see where I can go with this,’ and maintain that mental motivation.
