93-Year-Old Macon Man’s Incredible 1,000 Daily Pushups Achievement
Bouncing Back to Youth: The Gene Pollard Story
Living in Macon, Georgia, Gene Pollard is known for his exceptional fitness routine, despite his age. As a former player for the Macon Peaches, he continues to prioritize his health and fitness.
The Power of Pushups
In films, you might have heard a drill sergeant demanding soldiers to “drop and give 50.” They’re referring to pushups, a challenging exercise for many. Yet, Gene Pollard doesn’t find this intimidating. He takes pride in hitting large numbers of pushups, showcasing his consistency and determination, regardless of his age.
Commitment to Fitness
Having retired 25 years ago, Pollard started performing hundreds of pushups, five days a week. He does an impressive 1070 pushups per day. Despite being 93 years old, Gene continues to push himself to complete his daily fitness regimen. Even on days when his health isn’t at its best, he manages to maintain his fitness routine.
The Journey
Before his retirement, Pollard worked for the Department of Defense and traveled the world. He shares an interesting anecdote about being in Berlin when the wall came down, where he managed to chip off a part of it for himself and his five children.
The Macon Peaches Legacy
Prior to raising his children and after World War II, Pollard played as a first baseman for the original Macon Peaches. Although he didn’t make it to the majors, his time with the Chicago Cubs organization planted a seed of lifelong commitment to exercise.
Multifaceted Interests
Besides his penchant for fitness, Pollard possesses a multitude of talents. He’s a skilled pool player, creates his own furniture (even one using his Peaches bat), and is an artist.
Exercise as Future Insurance
Keeping active with pushups and cycling, he views these activities as an insurance policy for his future. When asked why he exercises so much, he simply responds, “Because I want to continue doing it.” He emphasizes that if he were to stop, it would be challenging to start again. To maintain his routine, he wakes up at 3 a.m every weekday to work out in his rec room, taking the weekends off to rest.
Graceful Aging
Staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Gene Pollard sets an example for us all about aging with grace.
