Victoria County Public Health Department’s New Fitness Initiative

VICTORIA, Texas – The Victoria County Public Health Department is encouraging local residents to increase their physical activity levels with the launch of a new outdoor fitness area at the Houston House apartment complex.

This free fitness area has been made possible through grants provided by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services‘ Healthy Communities Program. This program not only evaluates eight factors impacting chronic diseases but also assigns overall scores for community recognition and awareness levels.

About the Healthy Communities Program

The Healthy Communities Program is a targeted initiative that addresses specific needs within each community. Victoria County Public Health officials have noted that accessibility is often the biggest obstacle when it comes to public physical health.

Addressing Accessibility Issues in Public Health

Common issues such as transportation, equipment availability, and operating hours have been recognized as barriers that residents face when trying to engage in physical activity.

With the introduction of this free outdoor workout area, the county hopes to promote physical activity and lay the groundwork for similar projects in the future.
