Take Part in ‘Let’s Move in Libraries: Health and Fitness Week’ at Wilson County Public Library

The Wilson County Public Library is hosting a variety of events to celebrate the ‘Let’s Move in Libraries: Health and Fitness Week’. You can participate in events that cater to all ages throughout the week.

Music and Movement Storytime for Kids

On Monday, Sept. 22, at 10:30 a.m., bring your children aged 5 and below for an engaging ‘Let’s Move in Libraries: Music and Movement Storytime’. The storytime, led by experts from the Wilson County Health Department and dedicated library staff, features exciting music, song, and dance, providing an enjoyable learning environment for young kids.

Lets Get Physical with Health Professionals

Join us on Tuesday, Sept. 23, to learn how you can improve your health through increased physical activity. Wilson County Health Department professionals will showcase online fitness videos and chair exercises from 10-11 a.m. This event is for ages 18 and up and takes place in the main library’s assembly room on Nash Street.

Learn Healthy Health Care Habits

On the same day, nursing students from Barton College will share valuable insights on maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Get tips about nutrition, sleep, and mental health from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This session is beneficial for all age groups.

‘Let’s Move in Libraries’: A STEAM Program

Scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m., is a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and music) program aimed at children aged 5 and up. Barton College nursing students will exhibit the high-tech training mannequins used in their classes, offering an exciting learning experience for your kids.

Untangle the Mind with Mindful Moments

Take a break from your daily routine and join us on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 2-3:30 p.m. for ‘Untangle the Mind, Mindful Moments’. Learn methods to calm the mind through guided breathing and meditation, presented by Tayler Winstead, a recreational therapist with Carolina Family Health Centers, Inc. This session is suitable for ages 16 and up.

Preschool Storytime

On Thursday, Sept. 25, at 10:30 a.m., bring your kids aged 3 and up for ‘Let’s Move in Libraries: Preschool Storytime’. Let your kids explore the world of reading through fun stories, songs, and movement activities.

Learn about Behavior Change and S.M.A.R.T Goals

On Thursday, Sept. 25, from 12:45-2:15 p.m., join a session with nursing students from Barton College. They will discuss various topics such as self-efficacy, planned behavior, the health belief model, and how to set S.M.A.R.T (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound) goals. This session is aimed at adults aged 18 and up.

Compete in Brain Fitness Trivia

Expand your knowledge by participating in ‘Brain Fitness Trivia’ on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 2-3:30 p.m. for ages 16 and up. Enjoy an afternoon filled with competitive trivia on diverse topics including music, history, sports, and more. You can join a trivia team or participate individually. Tablets will be provided for the game, or you can bring your own device. Please register in advance.
