Bowie State Women’s Basketball Triumphs Over Shepherd Rams

The Bowie State women’s basketball team demonstrated their prowess in a thrilling 65-61 victory over the Shepherd Rams, a highlight of which was the impressive 20-point performance from the bench.

Players Performance

Three players from the Bulldogs, Anii Harris, Mia Smith, and Jayla Irvin, delivered double-figure performances. Harris stood out with 16 points while Smith contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Irvin, coming off the bench, added 10 points and stole the ball four times.

Game Statistics

The Bulldogs won the rebound battle against Shepherd, 52-31, led by Katerra Myers with eight boards. The Bulldogs also showed their offensive prowess by grabbing 21 offensive rebounds and turning them into 12 second chance points.

The defensive strength of the Bulldogs was also on display, forcing the Rams into 20 turnovers. These turnovers resulted in 16 points for the Bulldogs, with Irvin leading the individual effort with four steals.

Game Progression

The Bulldogs initially fell behind at the end of the first quarter, but eventually overcame the deficit and held a 56-50 lead entering the fourth quarter. Despite a scoring spree by the Rams in the final quarter, the Bulldogs held on for the victory.

Game Notes

The Bulldogs held the Rams to only 32.7 percent shooting from the field. The Bulldogs’ bench was particularly active, contributing 20 points. The Bulldogs’ defensive strength was evident with 20 forced turnovers, and they out-rebounded the Rams 52-31. Harris led all scorers with 16 points.

Looking Ahead

Following the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Bulldogs will face the California (PA) team on Monday, Nov. 25 for their home opener inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The Vulcans have a three-game winning streak against BSU, so the Bulldogs are eager to turn the tide.
