Ferentz is esteemed nationally, earning a high ranking with The Athletic’s 2023 college football coaching tiers. And while Alabama‘s Nick Saban leads Tier 1A, Ferentz proudly takes his place in Tier 3.
Competitive Coaching Ranks
In these coaching tiers, Ferentz shares company with coaches from Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin in Tier 2. He also shares Tier 3 with coaches from Penn State and Nebraska.
Kirk Ferentz’s Achievements
Ferentz boasts an impressive record as the longest-tenured head coach, leading the Hawkeyes to 186 overall wins and 115 Big Ten wins. These accomplishments rank him among the top Big Ten coaches for league wins and overall victories.
Iowa Hawkeyes’ Success under Ferentz
Ferentz has guided the Hawkeyes to victory in the Big Ten championships in 2002 and 2004 and the West division in 2015 and 2021. He’s also earned honors as the Big Ten Coach of the Year multiple times, and his team has received 20 bowl invites under his tenure.
