March Healthy Aging Clinic in Holmesville: Boost Wellness at Holmes County
Complimentary Healthy Aging Clinic for Senior Citizens at Holmesville Church of Christ
The Falls Prevention Program of Holmes & Wayne, spearheaded by the Holmes County General Health District (HCGHD), is pleased to host a Healthy Aging Clinic for individuals aged 60 and above. This event will be held at the Holmesville Church of Christ, 204 W. Main St., Holmesville, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5. This service is open to all senior citizens regardless of income levels. Prior registration is necessary.
Free Screenings for Fall Risk, Balance, Hearing, and Vision
This comprehensive healthcare clinic will be offering a variety of free screenings for fall risk, balance, hearing, and vision. Each of these assessments will be completed within a 30-minute time frame.
Participants can sign up for a fall risk screening conducted by an active member of the Standing Against Falls Coalition. This assessment is built around resources from the Stopping Elderly Accidents Deaths and Injuries (STEADI) program, an initiative of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The findings from this screening will be discussed with the participant, with possible onward referral to the Falls Prevention Program.
Balance Screenings and Postural Screen
Medical Reserve Corps volunteers from the health district will provide balance screenings. Post-screening, the participant’s results will be reviewed by Kerry MacQueen, Health Educator/Injury Prevention Coordinator at the health district, with a possible referral to the Falls Prevention Program of Holmes & Wayne. Furthermore, Jessica Boal, RN and Director of Community Wellness, will offer a postural screening that measures orthostatic hypotension.
Hearing and Vision Screenings
Modern Hearing Solutions will carry out the hearing screenings. The results will be explained to each participant, and referrals might be made if necessary.
Kristin Yabroff, a registered nurse and Medical Reserve Corps volunteer, will provide vision screenings as a certified Adult Vision Screener. Please note that this service is for screening purposes only, and no diagnosis will be made. However, participants will have access to information from Prevent Blindness, the Ohio affiliate of the state vision provider.
