Engaging STEM Activities for Charlotte-Area Students

Students from Kindergarten through 12th grade in the Charlotte area can experience a variety of engaging activities at STEM Fest, hosted at the The Pearl Innovation District’s Howard R. Levine Center for Education. This vibrant, family-friendly celebration of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) introduces attendees to STEM Lab, The Pearl’s leading K-12 education program.

Preparing Students for Future STEM Careers

The STEM Lab mission is to introduce students to a wide range of STEM careers to help them envision new possibilities for their futures. By connecting them with industry experts and real-world problems, it prepares students to lead in tomorrow’s workforce. One such student, Triniti, is a senior at Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences and is on a path to a well-paying career in healthcare through a $26.3 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies into her school’s early college program.

Exploring STEM in Action at The Pearl

The Pearl transforms into a dynamic learning playground during STEM Fest, featuring three floors of interactive STEM exhibits and demonstrations. The event inspires hundreds of young students to explore the convergence and future of health and science. Attendees can discover innovative healthcare solutions developed by Stryker and Siemens Healthineers, strategic partners of IRCAD North America.

Community Participation in STEM Fest

STEM Fest is a community effort, brought to life by more than 100 volunteers from Atrium Health and throughout the Charlotte community. High school students from The Pearl’s partner schools and younger students from Dorothy J. Vaughan Academy of Technology also participate in the celebration.

STEM Lab has been developing for years, with generous support from Truist Bank and the federal government. It connects students with learning opportunities both at The Pearl and directly in their school classrooms, ensuring that every student has access to transformative STEM opportunities.
