Maine Senate Candidate Platner Faces Unspecified Scandal, Postpones Events

TL/DR –

U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner has postponed several events amid emerging rumors of another potential damaging story about his past. While the allegations are yet to be confirmed, previous controversies include explicit messages sent to multiple women early in his marriage, a Nazi-linked tattoo he has since covered, and offensive remarks made on social media. Despite these controversies, Platner’s supporters remain focused on his political message on affordability and targeting corporate power in politics, and he himself does not plan to drop out of the race.

Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner halted events, fueling rumors of a damaging story about his past. The Gorham Democrats said a town hall was postponed due to Platner feeling “unwell.” Democrats stated a national outlet might release a story about Platner.

Platner, who denied allegations of toxic behavior from ex-girlfriends, saw the odds of him withdrawing rise to 9%. Despite past controversies, he ousted primary opponent Gov. Janet Mills and won over 70% of the vote in the Democratic primary.

Republicans and some Maine Democrats say Platner’s past controversies may impact his challenge against Senator Susan Collins. His supporters dismiss these concerns, focusing on his political stance against corporate power. Platner continues to target Collins, alleging she is part of a corrupt system in Washington.

Despite controversies, Platner said in June he never considered withdrawing from the race. “We’re dedicated to this, and it has never crossed our mind to drop out of this thing,” he told MS NOW.
