TL/DR –
US Senator Brian Schatz plans to attend the annual UN climate conference, COP28, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he will highlight the progress made by the Inflation Reduction Act. The Act, signed into law a year ago, invests in clean energy and aims to cut US carbon pollution by 40% in 2030, and it has exceeded initial projections and led to economic benefits, according to Schatz. The Senator believes the Act should serve as a blueprint for other countries to deliver climate action.

“The results after a year have surpassed our optimistic expectations. The doom-and-gloom predictions by fossil fuel companies and other corporate interests have not materialized. The IRA is creating hundreds of thousands of jobs, triggering a manufacturing revival, and bolstering communities against extreme weather. According to Schatz, the IRA can serve as a global blueprint for climate action. He emphasized, “Climate action has proven successful for everyone – we’ve done it and other countries should follow suit.”
