Upper Peninsula Chefs Share Recipes at Annual BBQ Showcase

Sunday saw Upper Peninsula chefs reveal their recipes at the third Barrel + Beam BBQ Showcase in Marquette Township, Michigan. The American Culinary Federation Upper Michigan Chapter organizes the event to highlight their culinary prowess.

Attendee Scott Alan, a BBQ enthusiast, celebrated Father’s Day over the mouth-watering dishes. He remarked, “Supporting this event is important. It’s quite an effort put in by the chefs.”

The gathering offered a diverse range of unique dishes, from Cubanos to spring rolls, reflecting each chef’s interpretation of barbecue.

Chef Alex Palzewicz of Barrel + Beam, who is also the local chapter’s secretary, led the barbeque this year. The event also attracted chefs outside the chapter, sparking curiosity in U.P. ACF Chapter President Derek Estes.

Estes shares that ACF members are committed to culinary education and advancing their professional careers. He emphasized, “Barbecue is more than grills and sauce. It’s about a community enjoying and eating together.”

The BBQ Showcase usually coincides with early summer and this year, it happened to be on Father’s Day. Estes commented, “Fathers can just come here, enjoy good food, and explore different cuisines.”

Alan especially enjoyed the Korean BBQ spring rolls, appreciating the chefs’ hard work in creating delectable food. He looks forward to bringing his family to next year’s BBQ event.
