Alabama Contract Healthcare Worker Arrested at Prison Drug Checkpoint
An Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) contract healthcare worker, Monica Tara Bishop, was arrested following a brief chase at a north Alabama prison drug checkpoint on Friday.
Officers and ADOC drug-sniffing dogs were conducting a vehicle check at Limestone Correctional Facility when they spotted a red SUV turning around approximately 150 yards from the checkpoint around 5:30 a.m. The driver, later identified as Bishop, attempted to evade officers but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers found 195 grams of methamphetamine, nearly 160 grams of marijuana, and 290 grams of chemically altered paper.
Bishop, 44, is an employee of YesCare, the contracted healthcare provider for ADOC. She was subsequently detained at the Limestone County Jail on multiple charges, which include methamphetamine trafficking, first-degree promoting prison contraband, first-degree possession of marijuana, and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
YesCare has been informed of the incident, and Bishop has been prohibited from all future admittance to any ADOC property. The case remains under investigation, and further charges may yet be filed.
