Identifying the Suspect in Mesa McDonald’s Shooting

Using witness testimonies and surveillance footage, authorities linked a black Hyundai Elantra, owned by Carlos Heard II, to the incident. The car was located at an apartment complex near Baseline and Alma School roads, approximately 2 miles from the McDonald’s.

Upon serving search warrants on Heard’s car and apartment, officers found evidence of Heard’s involvement in the shooting, including a handgun. Heard, 26, was arrested on Sunday and reportedly admitted to his involvement in the incident. According to court documents, an escalation of a verbal altercation in the drive-thru line led to an exchange of gunfire between Heard and Betker.
