Emotional Reflections from Joshua Briese’s Mother on Heroic Officer’s Sacrifice

TL/DR –

Joshua Briese, a new officer with the Gila River Police Department, was shot and killed while still in field training. He had followed in the footsteps of his late father, a Montana deputy who also died in the line of duty when Josh was five. Joshua’s mother, Erene Briese, learnt about her son’s death on the internet and expressed her grief, stating she wished she had more time with him.

Joshua Briese: Fearless Officer Lost in the Line of Duty

Joshua Briese, new recruit at the Gila River Police Department, was known for his fearlessness from a young age, according to his mother, Erene. He followed in the footsteps of his late father, a Montana deputy who passed away in action when Joshua was just five years old.

Despite the potential dangers, Joshua was determined to serve, even though his mother believes his dad would have preferred he chose a safer profession. She reflects on how times have changed since the 90s and the early 2000s, with less respect for officers today.

Tragically, Joshua’s brave pursuit ended abruptly as he was shot and killed while in field training on Saturday. Erene, residing in South Dakota, learned about her son’s passing online.

She expressed her grief, wishing she had had a chance to say more to him before his untimely death. She also shared her anger, believing the incident could have been prevented.

The public memorial service for Officer Briese is set on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Sun Valley Community Church—South Gilbert, 5545 South Lindsay Road.
