Code Purple Activated Due to Freezing Temperatures

A Code Purple has been announced for Asheville, N.C., on Nov. 2-3, 2023, in response to the predicted freezing temperatures. The Asheville – Buncombe Homeless Coalition explains that Code Purple is a joint venture among shelters and organizations to offer emergency accommodation to the homeless during extremely cold weather.

Transportation to Code Purple Shelter Sites

ABCCM offers shuttle service from its Crisis Ministry at 4 p.m. Free ART bus transit is available to and from Code Purple sites. Riders should identify themselves as needing transit to Code Purple sites from 3:20pm to 8:00pm. Inbound service is available the morning after a Code Purple event.

Community Paramedics and Responders provide transport for those unable to access bus transit. Mission Hospital also provides taxi service for people being discharged.

Weather Forecast

The upcoming weather forecast indicates temperatures dropping into the mid 20s on Wednesday Night and upper 20s on Thursday Night. Code Purple will be in effect to protect the homeless population during these freezing conditions.
