Promoting Peace: 2-Day Event Fights Community Violence

Community Violence Awareness Event Held in Asheville, N.C.

On Sunday, June 23, several nonprofits collaborated to raise awareness on community violence in Asheville, N.C.

The P.E.A.C.E. Team hosted the inaugural “48 Hours of Peace and Unity” event at Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center. This initiative aimed to mitigate violence through education, advocacy, and community engagement.

The acronym PEACE stands for Providing Education Advocacy through Community Engagement.

Attendees also took part in panel discussions with professionals working in violence prevention, discussing how violent crimes impact the Asheville community.

“It’s something we often overlook being a tourist town, but it is happening in our back yard,” said Jacquelyn Lake, program manager for the P.E.A.C.E. Team. “If it hasn’t affected you directly, it’s still impacting our community — so get involved.”

The P.E.A.C.E. Team is composed of My Daddy Taught Me That, YTL, and The SPARC Foundation.
