Sara Giles has been elected as the president of the Superior Health Foundation’s board of directors at their annual September meeting. Other appointments include David Jahn as vice president and Kara Katona who will continue her role as secretary/treasurer.
Former vice president Giles, current marketing director for Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, steps into the role following Dr. Dan Arnold’s term expiration after 19 years of service. Giles anticipates a productive year ahead for the Superior Health Foundation.
“Being on the board of the Superior Health Foundation has given me insight into the health disparities across the Upper Peninsula,” Giles commented. “Many residents face challenges accessing healthcare and essential resources, including food, housing, and mental health services.”
Giles expressed optimism about the region’s resilience and creativity in overcoming these challenges. She added that the foundation’s partnerships have been instrumental in its evolution and the positive change it’s creating in the region.
David Jahn, the newly elected vice president, is a retired hospital administrator with 40 years of experience, including at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital and War Memorial Hospital. Secretary/treasurer Katona serves as a managing partner at Makela, Toutant, Hill, Nardi & Katona, P.C.
The Superior Health Foundation’s board consists of 12 directors representing the entire Upper Peninsula.
