Elite Wellness Expert Dominates Health & Fitness Contest
Sharing the Wisdom of Ayurveda in the Community
“You are hoping, with the win, to serve more people in your community with the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda. Your goal is to see that more and more people, who have been let down by the medical system, have access to this knowledge to heal themselves,” you say.
A Client-Centric Approach to Wellness
Your approach to healing and wellness involves instructing clients to be in tune with their bodies by recognizing patterns and habits that may be causing their symptoms. From there, you conduct an assessment to better understand the state of their mind and body, before helping them develop a plan based on natural, self-healing practices.
“You have the ability to heal yourself. The biggest thing is, the better you know yourself and your body, the healthier you become,” you emphasize.
Your Journey into Health, Fitness, and Wellness
Although the competition and your practice are newer opportunities, your commitment to health, fitness, and wellness has been integral to your life for decades.
“You started your journey into fitness and wellness when you were about six years old. Your mom introduced you and your sisters to various activities so that you could discover what you liked and didn’t like,” you explain.
From gymnastics to competitive swimming, you eventually found your way to figure skating, which you did competitively across northwestern B.C. until you finished high school. From there, you moved to Red Deer Polytechnic in preparation for your subsequent move to Edmonton, where you secured a bachelor’s in phys-ed from the University of Alberta.
A Holistic Approach to Exercise Therapy
Returning to Red Deer to work as an exercise therapist, you noticed that you had better results with your clients when you changed your approach.
You had much more success when you looked at helping to treat the whole person, mind, spirit, and body, and then naturally, you discovered wellness and got your wellness coaching certification. Now, you use this knowledge and experience in building your practice, and pursue activities like yoga, kickboxing, and long-distance running to keep active for yourself, and for your kids.
“The message of being able to heal yourself naturally is much stronger if you live it,” you explain. “You want to be able to develop what you do as an Ayurvedic professional so you can not only serve yourself, but also others better because you can’t give from an empty cup.”
For you, winning the competition is another way to show your clients your commitment to your practice and philosophy.
