Remembering Elizabeth “Betsy” Boyle

Elizabeth “Betsy” Boyle, a beloved resident of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully at her home on November 23, 2023, aged 70.

Early Life and Career

Betsy was the cherished daughter of the late Jack and Betty Jo McGinley Dunbar. She was a proud alumnus of Meyers High School and spent over three decades providing invaluable support as an administrative assistant for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. She also served as the vice president of the secretary/aide union up until her well-deserved retirement.

Personal Life and Interests

Betsy led a joy-filled life, filled with weekly card games as part of her Wednesday night group. She was also fond of casino outings and enjoyed spending time at Harveys Lake with her cherished granddaughter. Her life was filled with close relationships, including her husband, granddaughter, siblings, niece, nephew, cousin, and her cherished dog, “The Mic”. She was also blessed with many friends who were like her extended family.

Passing and Remembrance

Betsy’s passing was preceded by her son, James Boyle, siblings Jacker Dunbar and Nancy Shepulski, and niece, Jessica Lombardo. A celebration of her life will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre.

Those wishing to honor Betsy’s memory may make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to the American Legion, Mountain Top Post 781.
