NBC: Trump Campaign Targets Disloyalty in Arizona GOP

TL/DR –

Donald Trump’s campaign has reportedly taken action to quash suspected disloyalty within the Arizona GOP, with the suspected ringleader being Shelby Busch, chair of the elections-focused group We The People AZ Alliance PAC and the chair of Arizona’s delegation to the GOP convention. Busch was accused of lobbying for a rule change at the Milwaukee convention that would allow someone other than Trump to be nominated. The issue has since been resolved and the Trump campaign has called on alternate delegates who had challenged the loyalty of the suspected delegates to withdraw their challenges.

Trump’s Campaign Quells Suspected Disloyalty within Arizona GOP

Donald Trump’s campaign swiftly intervened this week to address potential disloyalty within the Arizona GOP, as per NBC News. The intervention, however, was short-lived as the issue was quickly resolved.

The Arizona state party has recently been embroiled in internal disputes, with factions claiming to be executing Trump’s will. Speculation had arisen that members of Arizona’s delegation to the upcoming Republican National Convention plotted to undermine the ex-president.

Shelby Busch, chair of We The People AZ Alliance PAC, was suspected to be leading this plot. Busch was accused of anti-Republican behavior by a newsletter due to her ties with Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser.

Busch was accused of attempting to nominate someone other than Trump at the Milwaukee convention, with some speculating that Flynn would be the alternative nominee. However, Busch denied these allegations in a phone call with The Arizona Republic.

Trump’s campaign requested alternate delegates from Arizona to challenge those deemed disloyal, aiming to ensure a smooth nomination process for Trump. This was confirmed by Trump campaign’s political director, James Blair, in a recent social media post.

We the People AZ defended Busch, claiming that the intent was to replace pro-Trump delegates with RNC loyalists, as stated in a June 17 social media post. They also rejected the notion that they sought to unbind delegates from Trump.

The Trump campaign later called for the six alternate delegates to withdraw their challenges. Blair expressed satisfaction with Busch’s clarification and her commitment to following the campaign’s lead. As of Friday morning, all six challenges had been withdrawn.

Busch, a known advocate of unfounded elections security conspiracy theories, is also an ally of U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake.
