When to Visit the Grand Rapids Christkindl Markt

Free to everyone, the Markt at 435 Ionia Avenue SW is open from Nov. 17 to Dec. 23, closed only on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thanksgiving Day.

What to Discover in the Markt

With over 35 vendors, the Markt offers shopping, food, and drinks outside the Downtown Market, in traditional German market huts. Vendors exhibit an array of locally-made products perfect for holiday shopping, from unique Christmas ornaments and handmade pottery to artisan pastas and much more. See a full list of vendors.

Entertainments at the Markt

Every day at the Markt is packed with activities, including Santa visits, crafting for kids, caroling, storytimes, cookie decorating and performances by local artists. Up to eight people can rent their outdoor curling sheets. You can book it for a one-hour reservation at $100. Private heated tents or chalets are also available for $200 for two hours. Book here.

What to Eat and Drink

Enjoy authentic European flavors in the Markt. Glühwein, a warm, spiced wine served in a commemorative ceramic mug is available along with draft beers, hot chocolate, and hot cider. You may add cinnamon Schnapps, spiced rum, Amaretto or Lillet to any drink for an extra $2. Pair your drinks with sausages, potato pancakes, or try the variety of sweets from vendors. Parking Information
